María Luisa Trevejo is a Cuban-born American singer who found online success as Malu Trevejo. She initially gained fame on Musical.ly, but she’s now also a popular influencer on Instagram and TikTok. She has released a couple of singles as her fame and fortune continue to grow. As of 2022, Malu Trevejo has a net worth of $200,000.
Early Life
Malu was born in the Cuban capital of Havana on October 15, 2002. Her parents have Cuban and Spanish ancestry. When she was a newborn, her family relocated to Madrid, Spain, where she spent the next 12 years of her life.
Trevejo displayed a keen interest in performing throughout her stay in Spain, particularly in sketch films she made with friends. She uploaded videos of her belly dancing, which brought her to public attention for the first time.
She spent her childhood in Spain and left there when she was 13 years old. Malu and her mother moved to Miami, Florida. She chose to attend home school to focus on a musical career.
Rise to Fame
She created a Musical.ly account shortly after relocating to the US. She quickly grew a fan base that eventually reached the millions. She became a verified user after posting numerous lip-syncing clips. This opened her up to a lot of opportunities.
At the young age of 14, Trevejo had the chance to sign a recording and co-management deal with Universal Music Latin and In-Tu Linea. This was how she made her debut single, Luna Llena, on September 22, 2017. It now has 119 million views on YouTube.
Malu Trevejo issued Una Vez Más, a four-track EP, on August 2, 2019. Luna Llena spent two weeks at the top of the Hot Latin Songs list. The hit song was certified Gold and Platinum within 30 days of its release.
Controversies
After gaining some traction in her first contracts, many music companies eyed Malu. The one who eventually got her was Travis Scott’s label, Cactus Jack Records, in November 2021.
But three weeks after inking the deal, she left the label. Travis Scott’s reported agreement conflicts have prompted her to threaten to expose him. It was a heated issue at first, but they ended on good terms.
Another controversy involving Malu is her leaving home. She stated that this is because her mother became an alcoholic and her father was a drug addict. She feared for her safety, and fans were supportive of her decision.
Personal Life
In 2017, it was revealed that the singer was dating rapper NBA Youngboy. The romance, however, was controversially dissolved after intense disagreements between Malu and rapper Bhad Bhabi.
It was also rumored that she and Central Cee were in a relationship in early 2021. But that was revealed to be false. Around the same time, she was being linked to Swae Lee. They haven’t confirmed their relationship yet, but they’ve been rather romantic IG photos.
Apart from her dating life, Malu Trevejo started an OnlyFans account on her 18th birthday. In the first week, she had over 37,000 subscribers. Fans seem to love her striking looks and beautifully placed body tattoos.
