It’s probably safe to say that when your parents brought you into the world, they weren’t dreaming of Twitch streaming as your path to fame and fortune. But maybe Ross’ parents were different. That path seems to have worked out well for Adin Ross, who is currently worth $20 million.
What isn’t in question is how popular Ross has become. The gamer now has 3.85 million subscribers on YouTube, 2.3 million fans on Twitter and had around 7 million followers on Twitch before he got banned from the platform.
Background
So how did he get here, journey-wise? The 22 year old was born in Boca Raton, Florida, and is Jewish, with an older sister named Naomi. Ross grew up in Fresno, where he went to Hebrew school, and supposedly skipped classes to stream on Twitch.
His home life has generously been described as unsettled. His parents had an unstable relationship, and apparently “unsettled” includes Ross revealing on a podcast that he was stabbed in his sleep when he was nine by an erratic relative.
Streaming Success and Earnings
Ross freely admits that he struggles with depression but that hasn’t derailed him from his unique path to success. Adin claims that his Twitch streaming and gaming career has helped him cope with his demons.
They certainly have kept him busy. while streaming on Twitch he earned an estimated $3 to $5 million per month. Since leaving Twitch, Ross is now streaming on Kick, a website owned by Stake.com. Ross signed a multi-million dollar deal with Kick but the exact earnings haven’t been shared. Rumors online suggested he signed a two-year deal worth $150 million but these have proven to be false.
Ross cut his gaming teeth on NBA 2K, mastering the platform to develop a following that once watched him win a $50,000 wager during a long night of streaming. Ross’ rep skyrocketed for befriending LeBron James’ son, Bronny, but that was just the beginning of Ross showing his game when it comes to making friends in high places. Name a famous young rapper, and Ross has probably claimed him as a friend at some point.
Internet Feuds
Feuds are part of the formula as well. These started when Ross got into a serious beef with another rapper, Charles “Julio Foolio” Jones, after Ross was caught singing one of the rapper’s songs during a couple of his streams.
He’s become notorious for starting Twitch wars with other rappers and streamers, and there’s a definite WWE quality to many of these beefs. All of which makes some of his followers wonder if any of this is real, or if it’s really all about the publicity and the money.
Personal Life
Not surprisingly, his love life is all over the map, too. A stolen kiss with fellow streamer Corinna Kopf during a live stream generated a rumor tsunami, but Ross insisted he was still dating a girl known only as “Stacy.” His current dating status seems to be up in the air, so expect another controversy to hit the airwaves soon.
As for Ross’ income, he now relies on Kick, YouTube and sponsorship deals to make money. Much of his future income will likely depend on whether the streaming phenomenon turns out to be a staple of the gaming world or a short-lived bubble.
