Mark Edward Fischbach, popularly known as Markiplier, is a content creator, podcaster, and voice actor. As one of the top 100 most-subscribed YouTube channels, he is also the third highest paid YouTube according to Forbes. Markiplier has a net worth of $35 million in 2022.
Early Life
Fischbach was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 28, 1989. His father is of German heritage and served in the United States military, where he managed to meet Mark’s Korean mother.
He has an older brother named Jason Thomas, who grew up to be an artist. Their family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, after Mark was born. He spent most of his youth there.
He was a trumpet player in the Milford High School marching band. He went to the University of Cincinnati to study biomedical engineering but left to focus on YouTube. His father also died of cancer during this time.
YouTube Career
Fischbach created the Markiplier channel on March 6, 2012. His username is a combination of Mark and multiplier. His original plan for the channel was for it to be a sketch comedy show.
After this, he also made gameplay videos. Fischbach revealed in 2014 that he would be relocating to Los Angeles to improve his content. In 2015, after the death of his close friend Daniel Kyre, he took a break from uploading videos.
When he returned, Fischbach shifted his focus back to comedic sketches, demonstrating his desire to work in improvised theater. Fans loved this decision, and now, he has 32.3 million subscribers. This makes him the top 95 most-subscribed YouTube channel.
Podcasting
In 2018, Mark decided to start live streaming and podcasting. He worked with Bob Muysken and Wade Barnes to start 3 Peens in a Podcast on the live streaming platform Twitch.
The same trio announced the debut of a podcast titled Distractible in May 2021. This time, it wasn’t presented live. QCode pre-recorded it, and it’s available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
On his third podcast, Markiplier was now with Tyler Scheid. Their show is called Go! My Favorite Sports Team. They present topics for sports fans of all levels.
Other Ventures
Markiplier makes between $10 and $20 million per year from his different social media businesses. However, Mark does more than make videos and podcasts. He’s also a businessman.
Fischbach served on the board of Red Giant Entertainment, a comic publishing company, in November 2014. It was confirmed in 2016 that Mark would get his own comic book line. He is also a voice actor for Cartoon Network.
In 2018, Markiplier introduced Cloak, a new fashion line created in collaboration with Jacksepticeye. It was intended to be a gamer-focused sportswear line.
Personal Life
In 2015, Mark was admitted to the hospital for stomach difficulties. Some years later, a fist-sized tumor in his adrenal gland was removed. His appendix was also enlarged. In late 2020, he was hospitalized again for intestinal issues.
Thankfully, it was not life-threatening. He didn’t need surgery for it. He’s now back in his LA home with his girlfriend Amy Nelson, the woman Mark dated since 2015.
