Miss Hannah Minx, also known as Mistress Hannah Jinx, is a former YouTuber famous for her kawaii anime aesthetic. She mainly uploaded videos covering Japanese language and culture. However, amidst her success, Hannah disappeared off the face of the internet, leaving fans confused about what happened to her.

    Who is Hannah Minx?

Hannah was born on October 31, 1988, in Lexington, Kentucky, under the name Hannah Wagner. Not much is known about her personal life as she’s a private person.

Wagner had the idea of making Japanese language tutorials and accomplished this goal after studying abroad at Sophia University in Japan. In July 2008, she set up her YouTube channel and called it “MissHannahMinx”.

    How Did She Get Famous?

In March 2009, she uploaded her first video titled, “Japanese Lesson – Introductions” and it was an instant hit, so Hannah continued to post content regularly. Her channel’s fame surged with her top video doing over 10 million views. Her videos were mostly watched by men attracted by her big round eyes.

Hannah was known for teaching Japanese Words of the Week (JWOWs) and Japanese Phrases of the Week (JPOWs). From 2009 to 2014, she made videos every week and her followers couldn’t get enough. Her content was witty, informative, and entertaining. This helped her gain nearly 600,000 subscribers!

    How Did She Disappear?

Hannah made a number of films in addition to working on YouTube. She starred in The Devil’s Carnival in 2012 and co-wrote the screenplay for the horror film Slay Belles, which was shot before she disappeared but not released until 2018. After the project finished, Hannah seemed to vanish from the internet.

The aspiring actress released her last YouTube video on August 9, 2013 and hasn’t been seen or heard from since then. The most recent confirmed photos of her appear to be from a Bushwick Daily holiday party in late December 2013.

Her social media accounts went silent, and in June 2021, all videos on both her MissHannahMinx and BonusMinx channels were privatised, though it’s unclear whether Hannah herself or someone else made that decision.

Even to this day, Hannah never explained why she retired from YouTube. Fans and friends were concerned at the time, and fellow YouTuber Onision posted a video about her disappearance in April 2014. The director of one of her films even hired a private investigator to find out what happened.

    What Is Hannah Doing Now?

There has been a lot of discussion about Hannah’s decision to leave and the potential reasons behind it. The most widely circulated theory comes from a Reddit user who claimed to have been added to Hannah’s personal Facebook page early in her career, when she was accepting friend requests from subscribers.

According to a Reddit user, Hannah married a man named Steve Fox Osterhagen and has two children. As a mother her life would have changed drastically and wouldn’t have had the time for YouTube.

Another reason why the channel is empty may be because of account management issues. Hannah’s manager allegedly owned the rights to the “Hannah Minx” trademark, meaning she no longer owned her own content. Rather than fight to get it back, she chose to embrace life as a wife and mother.

Neither part of this claim has ever been independently verified, and some long-time followers have pointed out that the surname “Osterhagen” loosely translates from German as “Easter enclosure,” which they argue suggests the name may have started as a fan-forum joke.

Whatever the truth, Hannah is now in her late thirties, and after more than a decade of silence it seems unlikely she’ll return to YouTube.
