Catherine Wayne is an internet celebrity famous for portraying a character called “Boxxy” who was known for her high-energy vlogs. During the early days of YouTuber her alter ego gained a lot of attention but her YouTube channel has gone quiet and fans are wondering what happened to her.
Who Is Boxxy?
Boxxy was a figure that gained fame in the late 2000s on YouTube. Wayne filmed two videos in January 2008 on Gaia Online addressing her friends and uploaded them to YouTube under the username boxxybabee. Later that year, the videos were reposted on the website i-am-bored.com and then on 4chan.
She made a third video in response to the success of her first two videos. Wayne appears in the videos wearing her iconic eyeliner look and babbling about random topics. This became her signature style and format that made her famous.
How Did She Get Popular?
The videos caused controversy on 4chan and users clashed over whether to favor or condemn the character. This resulted in some flame wars on the site and there were incidents of hacking. A DoS attack happened on 4chan, forcing the site to go offline for several hours.
Boxxy’s YouTube channel also got hacked and her real identity was revealed. Up until that point she tried to hide her personal life. In January 2011, she uploaded a video pleading with followers to regain access to her old account. Around this time, Boxxy also got some mentions in the media and was referenced in a local Fox 11 report on internet trolls. Must have been a slow news day!
What Happened to Boxxy?
The Guardian, which was reacting to Catherine’s presence online at the time, documented the division of netizens in an article. During this time, Wayne took a break from YouTube but returned in 2010 with a new channel called “ANewHopeee.”
In June 2011, she created a third YouTube account, Bodaciousboxxy and alleged in a video that the Boxxy in the January 2011 video is not the actual character but a girl who looks very similar to her. She was reportedly hacked by a persona named Svetlana.
What Is She Doing Now?
Wayne has ventured into other ventures after her YouTube days. She hosted the Animalist streaming show for Discovery Digital Networks from December 2013 until December 2014.
She voiced Marsha in Billy Dilley’s Super-Duper Subterranean Summer in 2017 and featured in Isabelle Ruins Everything. In 2018, Wayne kindly lent her voice to an independent role-playing game that satirizes numerous facets of internet culture.
Now 30 years old, Catie is still an active voice actress but is no longer on YouTube. Twitter is the only platform she uses to share content. Aside from this newfound profession, she jumped on the NFT hype and listed FOAR EVERYWUN FRUM BOXXY NFT in OpenSea. Apart from this, not much is known about her personal life.
