Early Life
Linus Gabriel Sebastian was born in British Columbia, Canada, on August 20, 1986. He is one of four siblings and they grew up in the city of Surrey. Linus finished his early education at Maple Ridge, Garibaldi Secondary School and went to the University of British Columbia to pursue higher education.
While in the university, he found the passion that sparked his career. Since his freshman year of college, the Canadian-born techie has been fascinated with technology.
Career Beginnings
Before becoming a full-time tech reviewer, Linus worked as a painter and a swimming instructor. In 2007, he was hired by the now-defunct computer retailer NCIX as a category manager.
The company got him to present their technology channel and publicly review products. At NCIX, he juggled his roles as a channel host, sales representative, product manager, and systems designer.
He was advised to start the Linus Tech Tips channel due to the high costs and minimal views during the early stages of the NCIX channel. After a disagreement with the company’s management, Sebastian quit NCIX.
Independent Ventures
After leaving NCIX, Linus finally worked full-time on his own YouTube channel, educating viewers about the latest tech gadgets. With two business associates, he founded the Linus Media Group in 2013. Under Linus Media Group, Sebastian created a slew of other channels.
His other successful tech channels include ShortCircuit, Techiquickie, and TechLinked. His company expanded to other niches with channels like They’re Just Movies and Channel Super Fun. Linus Media Group also hosts LTX Expo, an annual event for tech influencers.
Apart from YouTube, Linus is the owner of Floatplane Media, a streaming platform. He has built a loyal fanbase that creates discussions on his forum, linustechtips.com. Now, he is among the top three most-subscribed YouTube channels with 14.9 million subscribers.
Net Worth and Earnings
His main channel, Linus Tech Tips, makes around $3.4 million a year from ad revenue. Techiquickie, TechLinked, and ShortCircuit earn between $300,000 to $367,000 annually. However, these are just four of his biggest channels.
The YouTuber gets extra income from Linus Media Group’s other channels, all of which get sponsorships and affiliate deals. In addition, he sells merch, which makes up about 15% of his income or about $2.8 million. From Floatplane, he’s made a sum of $1.14 million, adding to his $50 million fortune.
Personal Life
In 2011, Linus Sebastian married Hong Kong beauty, Yvonne Ho. The couple has three children, one boy and two daughters. They currently reside in Sebastian’s home city in Surrey, British Columbia.
