Linus Sebastian is a content creator most known for running Linus Tech Tips, one of the most-watched technology channels on YouTube. He also operates other accounts, including TechLinked, Techquickie, and ShortCircuit. As of 2023, Linus Sebastian has an estimated net worth of $85 million.
Early Life
Linus Gabriel Sebastian was born on August 20, 1986 in British Columbia, Canada. He is one of four siblings and grew up in the city of Surrey. Linus graduated from Garibaldi Secondary School and later attended the University of British Columbia.
At university, he discovered the passion that sparked his career. Since his freshman year of college, the Canadian-born techie has been fascinated with technology.
Career Beginnings
Before becoming a full-time tech reviewer, Linus worked as a painter and a swimming instructor. In 2007, he worked at the now-defunct computer retailer NCIX as a category manager.
The company got him to present their technology channel and publicly review products. At NCIX, he juggled his roles as a host, sales representative, product manager, and systems designer. After leaving NCIX due to management disputes, Sebastian founded Linus Media Group (LMG) in 2013.
Independent Ventures
Initially launched out of a garage, Linus Media Group has grown into a renowned content production company with over 100 full-time employees and is headquartered in Surrey, British Columbia.
While Linus Tech Tips remains the flagship channel, LMG operates several channels, including Techquickie, TechLinked, ShortCircuit, Channel Super Fun, LMG Clips, Mac Address, LinusCatTips, and They’re Just Movies. With a combined subscriber base exceeding 26 million and billions of views, these channels make significant ad revenue!
Beyond YouTube, LMG has diversified into other ventures. These include the LTX Expo, an annual event featuring tech-focused content creators; Creator Warehouse, a merchandise company; Floatplane, an online streaming service; and LTT Labs, dedicated to testing the validity of manufacturer claims.
In a significant transition, Sebastian announced in May 2023 that he would be stepping down as CEO of LMG, moving into a new role as Chief Vision Officer, with Terren Tong taking over as CEO. Despite this, Sebastian and his wife, Yvonne Ho, remain the sole shareholders of the company.
Net Worth and Earnings
His main channel, Linus Tech Tips, makes around $3.4 million a year from ad revenue. Techiquickie, TechLinked, and ShortCircuit earn between $300,000 to $367,000 annually. However, these are just four of his biggest channels.
The YouTuber gets extra income from Linus Media Group’s other channels, all of which have sponsorships and affiliate deals. In addition, he sells merch, which makes up about 15% of his income or about $2.8 million. From Floatplane, he’s made a sum of $1.14 million, adding to his $85 million fortune.
Personal Life
Sebastian married Yvonne Ho on May 20, 2011, and they have three children. Despite his busy schedule, he maintains a balance between his work and personal life, residing in his home city of Surrey, British Columbia. Known for his engaging and personable style, Sebastian continues to be a leading figure in the tech space, providing insightful, entertaining content to millions of subscribers worldwide.
