Early Life
Hailing from Cokato, Minnesota, David Reed Bromstad was born on August 17, 1973. He is the youngest of four kids to Richard Bromstad and Diane Krueger. Their family is of German, Norwegian, and Swedish descent.
As a child, he was always fascinated with art, and Walt Disney was his inspiration. Because of this, his dream was to become an animator for The Walt Disney Company.
After graduating from Wayzata High School, he went to Sarasota, Florida. There, he attended the Ringling College of Art and Design, an institution that Disney gets many of its artists from.

While in college, David realized that he wasn’t into animation as much as he thought. Even so, he was hired by his initial dream company after he earned his art degree.

He relocated to Miami Beach after a friend’s advice and applied for the debut season of HGTV’s Design Star. It was a competition show, searching for the next HGTV host and David Bromstad became the first winner of the series.
David then became a recurring guest on Design Star and was chosen to be the host of Design Star All-Stars in 2012. He went on to become a fan favorite on various HGTV shows.
His most successful project is hosting My Lottery Dream Home, where he helps lottery winners use their earnings to build a home. The show started airing in 2015, and it’s currently in its thirteenth season.
