As his name suggests, CryptoCobain, or simply Cobie is a cryptocurrency enthusiast with a deep knowledge of the industry. He is an investor, podcaster, and famous Twitter personality. He’s been crypto for a few years now and managed to survive tragedies such as the Mt. Gox hack and FTX’s collapse. CryptoCobain has an estimated net worth of $5 million in 2024.
Background
Cobie is a British guy whose real name is Jordan Fish. He got a Computer Science degree from the University of Bristol in 2013. Before Fish became a popular voice in the crypto world, he worked at various tech companies.
From January 2013 to April 2015, Jordan was the Director of Technology at CYOA. After departing this role, he became Enki.com’s Head of Growth from 2015 to 2017.
Then, he spearheaded product growth at a digital bank in the UK called Monzo. Jordan worked there from 2017 to 2020 as the Director of Product and made enough income from trading to go full-time into crypto.
Becoming a Crypto Influencer
In 2014, Cobie and Luke Mitchell launched Maxcoin, a cryptocurrency based on the celebrity of Max Keiser. Max himself interviewed the pair on his show ‘the Keiser Report’ and the project got some big publicity. The price of Maxcoin was over $2 per coin back then but has since crashed by over 99%. The project is pretty much dead and trades for less than 1 cent per token.
Investing in Bitcoin was Cobie’s first dive into the crypto space. When Ethereum came out, he had his doubts, but eventually embraced the innovative qualities of the new blockchain.
Even before he left Monzo, he was already a cryptocurrency analyst, and a good one at that. In 2017 Coindesk listed him in their top five token traders list. But it was after he left his work at the bank that his online presence skyrocketed.
On Twitter, he likes to share memes and more in-depth opinions on crypto-related matters. This includes his opinions on the current and future crypto market as well as his personal crypto holdings, which he states are only 5% of his net worth. Now, his account has over 719,000 followers but recently changed his username to @cobie and made his account private.
The UpOnly Podcast
Along with Brian “Ledger” Krogsgard, Cobie hosted the UpOnly podcast. On the podcast, they talked to some of the biggest names in the space such as Vitalik Buterin, Mark Cuban, Michael Saylor, and Joseph Lubin. They haven’t uploaded any episodes over the last year.
Personal Life
Cobie has a huge following online but prefers to keep his personal life private. One of his more controversial views is his take on Bitcoin versus Ethereum. In one discussion with the CEO of Three Arrows Capital, Su Zhu, and fellow analyst Hasu, he explains the threat of Ethereum to Bitcoin. He outlines how ETH has the power to stifle the development of BTC.
According to Cobie, if Ethereum’s market cap overtakes Bitcoin for an extended amount of time, it could endanger the current status of the leading virtual currency. That’s because long-term BTC holders will convert their assets to ETH.
