Christian Horner is a former racing car driver and team leader of the Red Bull Formula One team of Britain since 2005. While holding the position, he has helped the organization clinch nine world titles. With his expertise in the overall motorsport business, Christian Horner accumulated a net worth of $50 million as of 2023.
Background
Christian Edward Johnston Horner was born on November 16, 1973, to a family not new in the car industry. His grandpa worked for Standard Motor Company in Coventry as a buying manager.
Horner’s father helped his grandfather establish an agency that distributed parts for motor manufacturers. Their operations covered the English Midlands.
Christian also had two siblings named Guy and Jamie. Horner went to Arnold Lodge School in Leamington Spa and later Warwick School, both of which were private schools.
Racing Career
He began his racing career in karts and transitioned to auto racing after winning a Formula Renault grant in 1991. He drove for Manor Motorsport in the Formula Renault Championship in 1992, ending the season as the highest-placed rookie.
In 1997, he stepped up to Formula 3000, forming the Arden racing team. He founded the organization with borrowed funds, which included some money from his old man.
For 1998, he stayed in F3000. He was accompanied by Kurt Mollekens. His partner displayed good speed and topped the competition at one point. Still, Horner’s finest finish was sixth with Arden in 1997.
Leading Red Bull Racing
Red Bull named Horner as the principal of the Jaguar F1 Team in January 2005. As a 32-year-old, this made him the youngest team leader recorded in professional racing.
2006 was a transformative year for the team, and despite their vehicle’s unreliability in the Monaco Grand Prix, it managed a podium finish. They got second place in the 2009 Constructors’ Championship.
Christian became the youngest team boss to be a Formula One Constructors’ champion at the age of 36, cementing his place in history once more. In total, Red Bull has won five World Drivers’ Championships and four World Constructors’ Championship with Horner.
Other Ventures
He doesn’t own a portion of Red Bull Racing, unlike rival team leader Toto Wolff at Mercedes. Horner and Toto, along with their respective teams, have shown their mutual dislike towards each other multiple times. Nonetheless, Christian still makes $10 million annually.
Apart from his profession, Horner is involved in charity work. He is currently a representative for the Wings For Life Foundation. Their main goal is to increase awareness of spinal cord injuries.
The motorsport professional also has the honorary title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). It was in 2013 that he was given the honor.
Personal Life
He has a daughter with his previous partner Beverley Allen. Their child was born in 2013. On November 11, 2014, Horner confirmed his engagement to Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
They tied the knot in Woburn, Bedfordshire, on May 15, 2015. With this, he became the stepdad to Bluebell Madonna from Halliwell’s previous lover. The couple eventually had a son in 2017. Their family resides in Royal Leamington Spa.
