Like all business sectors, real estate is ever-evolving. Brandon Turner is an expert in the field and is the founder of Open Door Capital, a respected real estate investment firm. Along with his property business, he’s made his wealth through podcasting and publishing books. To date, Brandon Turner has a net worth of $10 million.
Early Life
Born in Washington, DC on July 9, 1985, Brandon struggled early in his career before becoming a millionaire. He accumulated $180,000 in student debt studying for a history degree at Northwestern College.
At 19-years-old, Turner had the idea of starting an oil change service but after creating the logo, he gave up on the venture. Once he graduated in 2006, the Washington native worked in various service-style jobs. Brandon worked at Cold Stone Creamery, scooping ice cream and later worked at a bank, making $12 to $13 per hour.
Real Estate Career
Brandon found an unlikely way into the property game. While working at a group home, he began watching home improvement TV shows, which inspired him to start investing in real estate.
He bought his first property at 21-years-old, a duplex wherein he lived on one side and rented out the other half. Turner quickly expanded his portfolio to over 40 units by utilizing a range of creative strategies.
Although flipping houses was his initial motivation, it wasn’t a big part of his future business model. He bought properties that generate passive income, like apartments and trailer parks, to build wealth faster. A similar strategy that the likes of Grant Cardone follows.
Further Success
With his expertise, Brandon was invited to become a co-host of the BiggerPockets financial podcast in 2013. Turner was a major part of the show’s journey in reaching the top of the real estate category on iTunes.
BiggerPockets helped him publish several books, including Real Estate Investing with No (and Low) Money Down, The Book on Real Estate Investing, and The Multifamily Millionaire. In 2019, he founded a real estate investment firm called Open Door Capital.
To focus on his new business, as well as his family, Brandon announced that he would be taking a break from the BiggerPockets podcast in 2021. The property mogul hasn’t made a comeback yet.
Net Worth and Earnings
Real estate is the main source of Brandon Turner’s fortune. His apartments and trailer parks are some of his biggest investments. Open Door Capital is now managing over 13,000 units and has $982 million in assets under management. To become an investor, you need to have at least $50,000 to $75,000 with increments of $5,000.
In addition, sharing his expertise has become a substantial income stream. In January 2023, he launched BetterLife, a mastermind for aspiring real estate investors. He claims 100% of the profits are donated to charity.
As a best-selling author on Amazon, he’s sold over one million books! Also, during his time at BiggerPockets, he earned a six-figure salary as reported by BusinessInsider.com. All of these activities add up to a $10 million fortune.
