Background
Born in Seoul, Korea, Han’s original name is Sooyun Byun. Her family moved to Washington DC and she grew up with parents that were well educated but made poor financial decisions.
Her love for finance sparked at 13 years old. Young Sooyun discovered the world-renowned book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Rose then went on to study finance at the NYU Stern School of Business.
While in college, she interned for the investment bank, Houlihan Lokey for eight months and earned a bachelor’s degree in 2011. During college, she accumulated $100,000 in student debt which put her under pressure.
Wall Street
Upon finishing college, Rose worked at HSBC Global Banking and Markets. Starting out as a summer analyst, she began researching trade ideas and building swap pricing models.
In 2012, she was transferred to the HSBC bank in Sao Paulo, Brazil and learned Portuguese to pass the local securities licensing exam. Next, she traded government bonds and worked closely with Korean clients.
Rose officially became a trader on her return to New York in 2013. This time around, she handled much bigger clients and consequently earned more money. However, the salary wasn’t enough to pay off her student loans.
Online Career
After realizing that being a corporate trader wouldn’t solve her problems, Rose Han took Robert Kiyosaki’s advice, started her own business and focused more on building an investment portfolio. In 2017, Han founded a meeting group to hold financial classes for free.
A year after giving in-person lectures, Rose planned to go online and started her YouTube channel with the aim of reaching a bigger audience. The channel’s growth was slow at first, but picked up pace during the pandemic.
More people wanted to become financially literate, and Rose was passionate about helping them. Her most popular videos are ‘8 Money Habits That Keep You Poor’ and ‘Index Funds vs Mutual Funds vs ETFs’.
