Roller coasters themed around famous characters, particularly superheroes, are somewhat common. Given the intensity of modern roller coasters, as well as modern superheroes, it only makes sense. Right now, Wonder Woman is arguably the hottest superhero in the world. She was, after all, the central character in an immensely popular movie, and the Justice League movie is coming up soon. Now, Princess Diana is getting the highest honor one can receive; a roller coaster in her honor.
The ride is coming to Fiesta Texas, the Six Flags park in San Antonio. It will be called The Golden Lasso, named in honor of Wonder Woman’s lasso of truth. So what makes this roller coaster stand out from the pack? Well, for starters, it only has a single track, as opposed to the typical double track a coaster has. This will, reportedly, lead to a smoother ride. Also, it makes it look more like a lasso. On top of that, the ride doesn’t have the usual style of supports. “It’s just going to look wrong, but in a nice way,” said the park’s president Jeffrey Siebert.
Based on the video simulation of the ride, it certainly does appear like it is going to look a little weird. In addition to the unusual design, the ride will have a 100-foot drop at 90 degrees, which is effectively straight down. It seems like it will be an intense affair worthy of Wonder Woman. Of course, it might make more sense to build a roller coaster around her invisible plane as opposed to a rope, but it’s too late to change that.
