The Room has become one of the most iconic “so bad it’s good” movies of all time. Few films have a cult as devoted as the cult that has built around Tommy Wiseau’s unfathomably bad and incomprehensible auteur piece. Just how impactful has The Room been in its awfulness? There is now a movie coming out about the making of The Room, and the first teaser trailer has now been unveiled.
The film is called The Disaster Artist, and it is based on the book of the same name by Greg Sestero, who played Mark in The Room. James Franco is not only directing the film, but he’s starring as Wiseau, an inveterate oddball, as well. In addition, he’s brought along people like Seth Rogen, Paul Scheer, and his brother Dave to bring the story of how a movie as bad as The Room to reality.
The teaser isn’t your traditional trailer, as it doesn’t give an overview of the movie. It’s focused on Franco, as Wiseau, trying to “nail” one line, and failing repeatedly. Naturally, it doesn’t go well in the world of the film. On the other hand, it is an encouraging sign for The Disaster Artist. The key to the movie is Franco nailing Wiseau, and he seems to do so, at least based on this scene. Although, there is a lot more left to be seen.
The film comes out December 1. Oh hi Mark.
