Animals have been a huge part of video games. Some of the best video games ever have animal stars, with some of them being wonderfully written. Ever played Sonic or Donkey Kong? The video game industry has been relying on animal characters for a big portion of its games, and besides the leads, the antagonists have left a great impression too.
Animal and intergalactic species video game baddies often steal the show from the main characters. Just play Reactoonz at Platincasino and you’ll see what we mean. Below you can see other popular video game animal antagonists that have left a mark in the industry.
Conker’s Bad Fur Day
The 2001 Rare platform game released for Nintendo 64 brought into focus one of the best animal video game characters of all time. A video game with a talking squirrel with bad habits, Conker’s Bad Fur Day was a game designed for mature audiences. Previous Conker video game appearances were pretty different, but in this game, the hard-drinking, cigar-smoking squirrel has been redesigned for another type of audience.
The player’s goal is to guide Conker through a series of wild obstacles and enemies. The game culminates on the final level where Conker must fight a xenomorph called Heinrich while using the same moves Ripley used in Aliens. It’s a bonkers game from start to finish that deserves a remaster.
Everyone’s favorite hedgehog became a multi-media franchise that now involves movies. The Sonic franchise is constantly adding characters including antagonists that have left their mark on the series. One of them is surely Metal Sonic, an evil robotic version of the main character invented by Dr. Robotnik himself.
While he’s not an animal antagonist per se, he’s still a metal hedgehog that aims to thwart Sonic’s plans. Metal Sonic has a jet engine, a force field device, a laser cannon, and possesses great strength, making him a major adversary to Sonic and one of the best animal antagonists in video games.
One of the most successful Sony Playstation franchises, Crash Bandicoot, has seen it’s fair share of crazy antagonists. The overarching baddie in all games is a voodoo mask spirit called Uka Uka and Neo Cortex. However, throughout the games there have been numerous animal baddies, with Crunch Bandicoot and Fake Crash among the top ones.
The first one is a genetically armed cyborg bandicoot. He was the main antagonist in Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex who eventually had a change of heart at the end of the game. Crunch is now one of Crash’s buddies.
When it comes to Fake Crash, he’s the lead character’s doppelganger and arch-rival who has appeared in all games so far and is a fan-favorite.
The video games industry has seen a lot of animal baddies over the years, but probably none is more famous than King K. Rool. King Kong’s arch nemesis is an anthropomorphic crocodile who can cause a lot of trouble for both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.
According to the game’s creators, King K. Rool is “what Bowser is to Mario”. The name K. Rool is a play on the word cruel, which the crocodile certainly is. He’s on everyone’s lists of top video game baddies, which shows how big of a threat King K. Rool is.
