Background
McCormack was born in Berkshire, South East England and grew up in Kempston, Bedfordshire. With a surname like McCormack it’s no surprise the 42-year-old has Irish connections.
For college, he went to Buckinghamshire New University to study Music Industry Management but dropped out in 2000 to work for a startup.
Before getting into crypto, Peter worked at Evolving Media Network. He started as a commercial director in 2005 but was promoted to managing director two years later. In 2009, he worked for Rapier UK as their Head of Digital.
Business Endeavors
While he was still with Evolving Media Network, Peter created his own agency with business executive Oliver Morrison. They launched an advertising service called McCormack & Morrison in 2009.
A year later, McCormack went to London and became the CEO of Bantr.tv. By allowing viewers to vote on live matches with other spectators, his business made live football interactive.
His two businesses made for substantial sources of income. One of them even grew to $1 million in value in under a year. However, Peter left Bantr.tv in 2015. The following year, he departed from McCormack & Morrison. After this, he shifted his focus to Bitcoin and journalism.
Journalism Career
Peter McCormack became a journalist in 2016 and started two websites, WhatBitcoinDid.com and Defiance.news. Later on, he transformed both websites into podcasts.
What Bitcoin Did is a bi-weekly podcast where he interviews some of the most influential people in crypto such as Willy Woo and Lyn Alden. The Defiance podcast focuses on important topics such as corruption, human rights and freedom.
McCormack also tried his hand at making films. Perhaps his most known documentary is about Nayib Bukele and his decision to make Bitcoin legal tender in El Salvador.
With his journalism success, Peter started another ambitious project around one of his favourite passions. In 2021, he purchased Real Bedford FC and set up Nakamoto 11 Ltd as the operating company.
Net Worth and Earnings
McCormack regularly shares how much he regularly makes through his online business. In 2020, he was averaging $50,000 a month. A year later, his monthly earnings went as high as $200,000. With his growing profile, the numbers are only expected to rise.
Before this, he had already built up a sizable fortune as a businessman. He invested early into Bitcoin and is a big believer in the digital asset in the long-term. His net worth is currently around $1 million.
Personal Life
Peter McCormack got married in 2014, but split up with his wife after three months. His partner was allegedly having an affair with one of Peter’s friends and he has remained single since then.
More recently, he has been involved in a legal case against computer scientist Craig Wright. Wright claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the founder of Bitcoin. It’s to say, McCormack’s legal bills were expensive as he’s not the type of person to back down.
