Oscar 2018 Nominations Announced: ‘The Shape of Water’ Leads with 13 Nominations

    ChuckBy ChuckJanuary 23, 2018

Nominees for the 90th Academy Awards were announced today by Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes), and the lineup holds few surprises if you saw this year’s Golden Globes. Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water led the pack with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.

The most notable snub was for Wonder Woman, which earned zero nominations despite critical and popular acclaim for director Patty Jenkins’ triumphant interpretation of the Amazonian hero. (Logan, Hugh Jackman’s swan song as Wolverine, earned a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, however.) And after winning a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, James Franco wasn’t even nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The 90th Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and air on ABC at 6:30PM ET / 3:30PM PT on March 4, 2018.
