Facebook introduced a new standalone virtual reality wireless headset, called Oculus Go. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the Oculus Go will ship in early 2018 and cost $199, during Oculus’s developers conference in San Jose, Calif. Zuckerberg said the new headset is a “high quality affordable experience that doesn’t tether you to a PC.”
Oculus head Hugo Barra said Go is “ the easiest way to jump into VR.” Oculus Go is good for watching movies, playing games, or watching concerts in VR. The headset is lightweight, and the facial interface is soft and breathable. The lenses also offer a wide field view with reduced glare. Oculus Go also comes with integrated spatial audio. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack so you have the option for private listening.
Oculus originally showed off a demo of its new virtual reality headset, during its annual conference last year. The new headset was designed to be portable, so you can take it anywhere.
The company also previewed Oculus Venues, a new experience that lets people watch live concerts, sports, and movie premieres coming next year. Zuckerberg said it’s his goal to get “1 billion people in virtual reality.”
