Nutr makes healthy and delicious dairy-free milks from the comfort of your own home. Their machine can make various milk recipes and you just need nuts and water to get started. They pitched their company on Shark Tank but didn’t get a deal. Nutr is now worth an estimated $6 million.
The Founders
Dane Turk lives in Mount Vernon, Ohio and has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio University. After graduating, Turk worked as a technical services account manager at Ariel Corporation.
However, Alicia Long grew up in China and her family immigrated to the US. Alicia has a BBA from Ohio State University, In 2015, she was a senior tech recruiter at Tech Start Up in San Francisco. Over the next five years, she worked for Amazon and Google in the same position.
Founding Nutr
Growing up, Alicia was lactose intolerant, as a child she would watch her mother make nut milk and it was messy. When she was expecting her first baby, Alicia wanted to live a more sustainable lifestyle.
Upon research, Alicia and her husband were shocked to discover how much preservatives were added to bottled nut milk in stores. This inspired them to develop a home appliance that can make plant-based milk without additives.
The Nutr machine became available to the public in 2020. The following year, sales skyrocketed to more than $2.7 million. This helped the startup raise over $241,000 from a crowdfunding campaign on WeFunder.
Getting on Shark Tank
In 2022, the startup made a larger version of its machine and kicked off another funding campaign. This time, they raised over $66,500 on IndieGoGo.
Their eco-friendly technology is still patent-pending. Nevertheless, the founders were looking for ways to raise more money and expand operations. Appearing on Shark Tank gave the company a huge boost but the $10 million valuation was nuts!
After Shark Tank
The episode aired on 20 January 2023 and Nutr got a $200,000 jump in sales for January after the show. This is surprising considering the product’s $169 price point. The founders would argue it could save you money in the long term.

The business also sells a signature mug and drinking glass for an additional $50. From browsing Nutr’s website, it’s clear they understand how to sell online and the branding is excellent.

Nutr will be potentially closing a $1.5 million seed round and forecasted sales of $25 million for 2023! Similar companies have featured on Shark Tank in the past such as NuMilk which has struggled to make a profit but is now valued at $55 million.
