How many devices can you use one Netflix account on?
Everything you need to know about using and sharing a Netflix account
We have lived through the era of discs, and the era of digital downloads. However, it hasn’t stopped there! The advances in internet speeds and the quality revolution in the television medium have paved the way for streaming services to take the centre stage. While there are multiple streaming services that make their own series and films, as well as host content that already exists, among all of them, the true king of streaming today is: Netflix!
Now, with illegal downloads being easily accessible, paying for Netflix can be a tough call to make for some, but the best part of using Netflix is that you can share a subscription! Here’s how.
Subscription plans
To begin with, Netflix has three subscription plans:
Basic: It costs $7.99 a month, and it will allow you to stream movies and TV series to one screen. However, it only gives you a standard definition streaming option. You cannot watch Netflix in HD in this plan.
Standard: It costs $10.99 a month, and it will allow you to stream movies and TV series to 2 devices, simultaneously. This plan also includes HD streaming, which means you can stream at Full HD quality.
Premium: It costs $14.99 a month, and you can stream to up to 4 devices in total. Not only that, this plan also has Ultra HD 4K streaming, and also allows HDR technology for compatible content and devices. This means you can stream movies and TV series at the maximum possible streaming quality in the world right now.
Profiles
Now, if you’re considering sharing a Netflix subscription, the Premium plan is the clear way to go, with maximum quality streaming, to up to four devices. Netflix is available to stream on a wide range of devices like PCs and laptops, cellphones, tablets, smart TVs, streaming devices, gaming consoles, and more!
Netflix has made sharing an account quite easy. The Profiles feature lets multiple users have personalised content present for them when they access the account on their device. Netflix will tailor your watching experience according to what you watch.
You can make up to five profiles per account, and there’s also an option for a Kids profile, so you can make sure the kids using your devices get to watch age-appropriate, fun to watch content.
Sharing a subscription
While Netflix has provided the Profiles feature to ensure multiple users can watch movies and TV series using the same account, sharing a subscription is completely at the account holder’s discretion. The feature is designed to help share a subscription with your family, and perhaps, close friends.
If you’re buying a subscription with a carpool approach where you and three of your friends pay for an account, you can simply set up four profiles, and each user can watch on their own device. With such an approach, one user can use Netflix at maximum quality on one device, at only about $3.75 a month, which is less than half the price of the Basic plan.
We highly recommend that you share your account and password only with people you know very well. Giving your password to a stranger is potentially a huge risk, so share carefully!
Happy streaming!
