NCSOFT’s action RPG/Moba Master X Master is now officially available to the western world. Nearly three years after the game began its beta testing in South Korea, MxM has had its official launch today in North America and Europe. The game is currently free to play for Windows PC.
The story of MXM revolves around saving Earth from the insidious AI Atlas. Players will utilize not one, but two characters in combat who can be swapped out with each other at any time, although there is a cool-down period between character swapping as well as player deaths. Emphasis is heavy on teamwork, however, and deaths are noted to be particularly long to encourage players to work as a team. The tag mechanic allows for more revolutionary combat, in any of the game’s modes.
MXM features gameplay that combines the traditional mechanics of MOBA with a few innovative upgrades. In addition to the tag mechanic system, the game offers PVE play, uncharacteristic of the MOBA genre. PVE is available in solo and co-op modes with up to four other players taking on hordes of enemies in a more action-RPG experience. Traditional PVP also features in the usual tri-lane 5v5 mode, as well as a 3v3 team deathmatch mode. Teams are rewarded for defeating multiple enemies by being given the chance to temporarily summon a powerful Titan to aid them. Games end when either a team has the most points in a timed match after the clock runs out, or a threshold must be met. A series of lighthearted mini-games have also been announced for future updates, which are meant to give a twist to the standard gameplay.
NCSOFT promises a great deal of new content is already in the works, to be revealed in the near future. Meanwhile, the game is free to download and play for players in North America and Europe
