If you’ve watched Steve Harvey at all over the years, you’ve probably smiled at the awesome smirks he displays during one of his shows.
Those smirks have probably made you wonder about Harvey’s own history with the ladies, and it’s a subject that’s well-worth exploring. Harvey is currently working on marriage number 3 with Marjorie Elaine Harvey, who is a fascinating subject in her own right.
She’s listed in most of the standard bio’s as a designer and fashion blogger, and married Steve in 2007. Marjorie grew up in Memphis, and she, too, is a third-timer in the marriage game. She’s been married twice, and already had three kids before she married Steve.
She also helps run Harvey’s foundation, but they didn’t exactly get off to a blazing start. They met at a comedy club in Memphis back in 1990, and her late entrance led to a series of amusing jokes from Harvey that he didn’t know who she was, but that he was going to marry her.
Incredibly, the jokes turned out to be true. It took a while for Harvey to get her to the altar, but he’s made it clear that he sees her as the love of his life – aside from his previous wives, of course, back when he was with them.
Since then they’ve become a true power couple. The net worth of the Harvey’s is estimated at around $180 million, and they spend much of their free time using their wealth to travel to exotic locations and visit all their children and grandchildren.
Marjorie Elaine Harvey does have some checkered aspects to her history, though. Her first time on the marriage-go-round led to a union with Jim Townsend, who turned out to be a criminal and a drug dealer.
Her flamboyant fashion creations make it clear she has a well-defined personality of her own, and her multiracial background puts an exclamation point on her uniqueness.
Time and compatibility seem to have smoothed off the rough edges, however. Their children have brought them together in a major way, as has their foundation, which is a non-profit devoted to covering educational expenses for those who can’t afford them.
Their own kids are a subject in their own right. The Harvey’s had some serious blending to do to get their family chemistry right, but it’s paid off in a big way. They now have five grandchildren, so there are plenty of options when it comes to family vacations and visits.
Steve Harvey, who’s now 66 – Marjorie is 58 – has made it very clear in several interviews what makes their marriage work. He cites the fact that he married a woman who was already happy and fulfilled, which allowed the chemistry between them to surface and then flourish. It feels like the third time’s the charm for both of them, and it’s hard not to wish them the best in the future.
