A prominent female figure in the reggaeton genre, Karol G is a singer and songwriter who appeared on The X Factor Colombia as a teen. However, the artist made a breakthrough later in her career. As of 2023, Karol G has a net worth of $8 million.
Background
Originally from Medellin, Colombia, Carolina Giraldo Navarro was born on February 14, 1991. She was the youngest of three kids in her family and discovered her love for singing at five years old,
It was when she turned 14 years old that she joined Colombia’s spinoff of the music competition The X Factor. Around this time, she was still pursuing secondary education at a religious institution called Calasanz School.
The Medellin beauty decided to study music at the University of Antioquia to enhance her skills. Later in life, she moved to New York, United States, to study business administration.
Career Beginnings
Though she didn’t win The X Factor, Carolina did enough to sign her first recording deal with Flamingo Records. She also caught the attention of a Puerto Rican label, Diamond Music.
Under the alias Karol G, Navarro started dropping singles from 2007 to 2012 and her first released song was En la Playa. As a university student, she recorded 301 and Tu Juguete. She also performed as a backup singer while in college.
Karol G flew to Miami to meet with Universal Records. Unfortunately, the record company didn’t sign her because they thought women wouldn’t succeed in the reggaeton category.
Achieving Success
Carolina decided to promote herself by going on college campuses, festivals, and clubs back in her home country. However, progress was slow, so she decided to try business administration as a backup plan.
However, her 2014 single, Rico Besos, became a huge hit. It helped the struggling musician get back on her feet and ink a deal with Universal Music Latino in 2016. The following year, she was chosen to be a judge in Pequeños Gigantes USA, a reality talent show.
In late 2017, her debut studio album, Unstoppable, was released and peaked at number two on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. Her second album, Ocean, came out in 2019, and her third major project, KG0516, dropped in 2021.
Net Worth and Earnings
The Colombian singer-songwriter makes most of her wealth from her recording deals and album sales. She is also actively earning from tours, her latest one is called the $trip Love Tour. Furthermore, she does brand collaborations and sells merchandise on her website.
She started her own merch store, ShopKarolG.com which sells individual shirts, accessories, and records. This is a secondary income source, but it’s now a big part of Karol G’s $8 million net worth.
Personal Life
After many collaborations, Karol G got engaged to rapper Anuel AA in 2019, but they broke up in 2021. Now, the reggaeton queen spends a lot of time constantly changing her hair color. Recently, she switched from aqua blue to bright red. Currently, she lives the high life in a Miami mansion.
