Even though Netflix has started cancelling things slightly more often, there was not really any threat of that happening to GLOW. Given the seeming popularity of the first season, plus the names attached to the projects, it seemed inevitable that GLOW would get a second season. Now, that inevitability has become official. The show set in the world of ’80s women’s wrestling will be returning to Netflix.
This is not a surprise, because who could say no to a TV show starring Alison Brie as a woman whose wrestling persona is an evil Russian? Plus, the show is produced by Jenji Kohan, who also produces Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, which has been one of the cornerstones of their original programming. We know very little about the second season, other than finding out it will be 10 episodes.
Had the show ended after one season, it would have been fine, because the story of the first season built to a crescendo that would have worked as a finale. That being said, it’s good news that GLOW will be back. It was funny, but also exciting and a genuine feel-good show in some aspects. What will come next for Zoya the Destroyer and Liberty Belle? More importantly, will we see more of the Beatdown Bitties? One can only hope.
