Classic console fans can get their hands on brand new versions of the Atari Flashback and Sega Genesis Flashback this fall, but those looking to guarantee they get their nostalgia fix on launch day can pre-order the products beginning July 28th. Like previous Flashbacks–and the massively popular mini NES Classic Edition–both pieces of hardware come pre-loaded with an impressive slate of popular titles. The Atari Flashback 8 Gold packs 120 games, including fan-favorites Pitfall, Space Invaders, Kaboom, and Centipede, while Sega’s box boasts 85 games, including entries from the Mortal Kombat, Phantasy Star, Shining Star and, of course, Sonic the Hedgehog series. The latter hardware also includes built-in titles from both the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear platforms, as well as an integrated cartridge port that plays most original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges.
Among the other features separating both classic platforms from their predecessors are a pair of wireless controllers–styled after the original Atari 2600 joysticks and Sega Genesis gamepads, respectively–as well as 720p HDMI output, scan line filtering, and a save/pause/rewind feature for every game. Specific release dates are still under wraps, but both consoles are expected to sting old school gamers’ nostalgia-loving nerves sometime in September.
