For many actresses who start their careers doing films that are originally in Spanish, making the transition to English, Hollywood and the US market can be an uphill battle.
Not for Ana de Armas, however. The 32-year old Spanish-Cuban actress has used her talent, beauty and work ethic to make the transition look relatively easy, and she’s well on her way to being a household name. As of 2022, Ana de Armas has a net worth of $4 million.
Background
De Armas grew up in Havana, Cuba, and her full name, Ana Celia De Armas Caso, is definitely a mouthful. She’s Spanish on her mother’s side, Cuban on her father’s, and she decided to become an actress at the tender age of 12 by enrolling in the National Theater School of Cuba.
Acting Career
The professional approach paid off. She debuted in Spanish films in 2006, and when she turned 18 she moved to Spain to get more acting opportunities.
Her big US break came with a role in “Hands of Stone,” a biopic about boxer Roberto Duran. De Armas played the mother of Duran’s five children. That and a sinister bombshell role in “Knock Knock” alongside Keanu Reeves vaulted her into a series of mainstream Hollywood roles.
Since then the work has come thick and fast, and de Armas has been involved in some impressive projects, most notably a role in “Knives Out,” the critically acclaimed whodunit satire that featured a number of other big name stars, most notably Daniel Craig and Chris Evans.
Speaking of Craig, de Armas is now poised to become a member of the Bondosphere, as she’s slated to star in the next installment of the Bond franchise. Craig, of course, recently decided to ditch his version of the Bond persona.
Her list of films has been growing steadily, so de Armas is now a recognized name, and she’s poised to be paid appropriately. Despite her talent, her bank account and her growing resume, though, it’s been her dating life that’s drawn the most attention in the last couple of years.
Which is basically the case when you get involved with the ultimate celebrity male diva, Ben Affleck. De Armas first dipped her feet into romantic waters with Spanish actor Marc Clotet, but that two-year marriage ended with a divorce in 2013.
Round 2 featured her with talent agent Franklin Tatt, but that one-year relationship ended with an engagement that didn’t quite get to the altar.
Dating Life
Then she met Affleck on the set of the erotic thriller “Deep Water,” and that led to a relationship that absolutely thrilled the tabloid sharks and Page Six mavens.
They split up early last year over differences in whether to have children together, and that of course led indirectly to Affleck’s infamous re-coupling with Jennifer Lopez.
For de Armas, the romantic merry-go-round continues, perhaps appropriately, with Tinder VP Paul Boukadakis. The couple is currently splitting time between LA and Texas, which is where Boukadakis resides.
Things have reportedly turned serious between them, so somebody’s likely going to have to move if things go in that direction. Tabloid reactions aside, if they do make it to the altar, the happy couple should be ready for a lifetime of bad “swipe” jokes.
