Amir Iqbal Khan is a professional boxer who once held the light-welterweight titles for the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation. He is also a boxing promoter, being the founder and CEO of Khan Promotions. As of 2022, Amir Khan has an estimated net worth of £30 million ($40 million).
Background
Amir Khan was born on December 8, 1986. He grew up in a Punjabi Rajput family from Bolton, Greater Manchester, England, and his ancestry is Pakistani.
His family originated in a village called Matore in Kahuta Tehsil, Punjab, Pakistan. He has three siblings: two sisters and one brother, Haroon “Harry” Khan, also a pro boxer.
He is a proud Muslim who belongs to the Naqshbandi Sufi Order. His background and character make him a relatable figure for his countrymen and those in nearby Asian countries. That’s why his fanbase is big in this region.
Amateur Boxing
Khan started boxing competitively when he was 11 years old. He bagged three English school championships, three junior ABA titles, and a gold medal at the 2003 Junior Olympics.
He captured the first prize at the European Student Championships in Lithuania in early 2004. He also won a world junior lightweight title in South Korea a couple of months later.
The rising star qualified for the Summer Olympics in 2004. At 17, he was Britain’s only boxing representative at the Athens Games, where he won a silver medal. In total, he amassed a 101-9 amateur rating.
Boxing Career
Amir moved on to the professional level in 2005. He continued his career as a lightweight boxer after his breakthrough and competed in competitions all around the globe.
He won his first 18 bouts without too much hassle before getting knocked out by a hard hitting Colombian, Breidis Prescott. Despite the loss, it didn’t impact Khan’s commercial appeal to broadcasters. He bounced back over the next three years with wins over the legendary Marco Antonio Barrera, Malignaggi, Maidana and Zab Judah.
Losses to Peterson and Danny Garcia dented his legacy slightly but his global appeal, speed, skills and vulnerability in the ring make him highly entertaining to watch.
Over the next ten years he secured more mega money fights against the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Crawford and even made an easy £7 million for fighting Billy Dib.
Income Sources
The man’s account balance has been bolstered by his fights from 2010 to 2016. He earned £690,000 to £9.4 million per fight in this period. He also had a three-fight deal with Frank Warren’s BoxNation.
In addition to the money from fights, the sporting icon has increased his income by promoting boxing matches with his own promotional company. He also got paid for appearing in television programs, like I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
Upcoming Fight
In the eyes of many, Amir Khan has already gained legendary status, but he has been quiet in recent years. That is until his hottest fight announcement against Kell Brook.
Brook revealed how their long-standing animosity dates back to their early professional days, noting Khan’s lack of respect for him when they both turned pro. Now, it’s finally time to settle the dispute. February 19, 2022, is the set date.
Personal Life
In 2013, Khan married his bride Faryal Makhdoom. She is a model with her own makeup brand. Lamisah, Muhammad, and Alayna are the couple’s three sweet children.
