Amazon has introduced its first waterproof Kindle e-reader – the new Kindle Oasis. Sporting a 7-inch, 300 PPI display, the new Kindle Oasis device is thin, light, and only weighs 194 grams, less than the Kindle Paperwhite. The device has an ultra-thin 3.4 mm display featuring cover glass and a new aluminum back.
Amazon’s First Waterproof Kindle
The new Kindle Oasis is waterproof so you can easily read in places like the bathtub or the swimming pool. The Kindle Oasis is “IPX8 rated to protect against immersion in up to two meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes,” said Amazon. “It’s built to withstand getting splashed at the beach or dropped in the bathtub, hot tub, or pool.”
Listen To Audiobooks On Your Kindle
With Audible built in, you can now listen to audiobooks on the new Kindle Oasis. “You never have to put your story down and can switch easily between reading and listening without changing devices,” said Amazon. You can also connect the new Kindle Oasis with a Bluetooth-enabled device, like speakers or headphones, and you can listen to audiobooks while on the go. Audible will be available on the new Kindle Oasis via an over-the-air-update when the device ships later this month.
The New Kindle Oasis has Two Storage Options
The new Kindle Oasis comes with a heavy price tag, of course. The new Kindle Oasis costs $249.99 for the 8 GB model and $279.99 for the 32 GB model. You can pre-order the new Kindle online today, and the device will ship on Oct 31.
