Blade Runner is one of the most cultishly adored sci-fi films of all-time, so the fact they are making a sequel to the 1982 movie is a pretty daunting task. If Denis Villenueve’s Blade Runner 2049 doesn’t meet expectations, people are not going to be cool with that. We saw a cryptic teaser trailer a little while back, but now the Twitter account for the film has released a couple posters, one each for the films two main characters.
One of the posters, naturally, features Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, the main character of Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner movie. To give too much detail about the nature of Deckard would possibly be a spoiler, although if you are going to see Blade Runner 2049 without having seen the original that might be a little weird. The Deckard poster seems to show a Planet of the Apes-style apocalyptic wasteland of the future. The other poster feature Ryan Gosling’s Officer K, who is not from the original, considering Gosling was a much younger man in 1982. His poster is also futuristic, but it seems like a better version of the future, if only because he seems to have a cool car.
The film will be released October 6, 2017, and it also stars Jared Leto, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista. There are a lot of unknowns about Blade Runner 2049 at the moment, but at least these posters are pretty cool. If the movie ends up disappointing, we’ll always have that.
