Pokemon Go really gave the world of Pokemon a boost, as it emerged as an immensely popular game, at least for a little while. However, Pokemon isn’t merely resting on its poke-laurels, as they have a new game in the works. It’s called PokeLand, and it will be coming to an iOS or Android device near you.
In the game you will control a “toy” Pokemon, which you will then use to fight other Pokemon. If you defeat the Pokemon, then you get to, uh, befriend it. While it’s a little hard to follow the logic of first fighting, and then befriending, other Pokemon, but the game seems like it wants to stay on the positive side of things. There’s a reason they are being called “toy” Pokemon, after all.
A 10,000-user alpha test is being held for Android users from May 31 until June 9. The test includes 134 Pokemon, six islands, and 52 stage types. It seems unlikely PokeLand is going to be able capture the zeitgeist like Pokemon Go. The appeal of Pokemon Go was largely in the fact you could go out into the world and hunt down Pokemon. This game seems like it will lead to a lot less exercise, but also a lot less people walking off of cliffs or what have you.
