Mad Gear Games is offering an innovative (or perhaps I should say “retro-vative”) bonus to completionists who dive into the Xbox One version of its retro platformer A Hole New World. Be one of the first three players to unlock all achievements and contact Mad Gear to let them know, and you will get a working limited edition NES cartridge containing the game’s soundtrack.
Scoring that cartridge may be easier said than done, though – there are no tutorials or “Easy Mode” to help you get through this game. Instead, you’ll have to rely on hints from Fäy, your companion fairy, and potions.
The gameplay is classic NES-stye platformer goodness, with more than 30 different enemies, seven boss battles, and tons of secrets. The story mode has five different worlds with multiple endings, and once you’ve completed that, you can dig into A Hole New World’s extra modes such as Challenge Mode and Boss Rush Mode.
Players who want to take on this challenge will have to wait for the launch of A Hole New World on Xbox One on June 9. While the game is out now for PC, Mac, and Linux through Steam, the NES cartridge challenge doesn’t extend to that platform. A PlayStation 4 release is scheduled for sometime later this summer, though, and it looks like the promotion will be available for that console as well.
