Square Enix is introducing another Dragon Quest mobile game, though this one is likely a lot different from what you may have expected. Think of what could happen if you took Dragon Quest and the popular card battle game Hearthstone and mashed them up. Then you might have a good idea about what to expect from Dragon Quest Rivals, a brand new card game that looks just like Blizzard’s mega-popular mobile title.
The game will find players engaging in turn-based battles with decks of cards featuring characters and monsters from throughout the entirety of the Dragon Quest series, with a tale unfolding via card battle. This implies some sort of lore and story will be involved, though there isn’t any information floating around out there as to what just yet.
There’s going to be a closed beta test for anyone interested in trying the game out from June 9 through June 19, however, where Japanese players can go ahead and register to try it. Square Enix will be accepting only 2,000 iOS players and 8,000 Android players to get things started.
Dragon Quest Rivals is coming for both iOS and Android devices in Japan in 2017, though a Western release has yet to be announced just yet. You can check out the teaser trailer below.
