In a special message posted on the Life is Strange blog, the DONTNOD development team has confirmed that it is working on a brand new Life is Strange game. The original Life is Strange episodic adventure series was released in 2015 on Windows PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Linux.
An appropriately atmospheric and moody video featuring Life is Strange game directors Michel Koch and Raoul Barbet, and producer Luc Baghadoust, accompanies the post. In it, they reveal that the original game has reached more than 3 million paying players and thank the community for its continued support in the form of emails, gifts, and cosplay photos.
Then they break the news we’ve been dying to hear – a new Life is Strange game is in development. While they don’t reveal any details about plot or whether the new episodic series will be a true sequel, the team has indicated in the past that a new season of Life is Strange would likely feature a new cast and location.
“We can’t wait to tell you all about it when the time is right, but for now we are hard at work ensuring it is the very best game we can create, “ the team said in its post. It also confirmed that the new Life is Strange game will not be shown at this year’s E3 next month.
It’s unlikely that the new Life is Strange game will stray too far from what made the first one a success, such as the game mechanic that allows you to rewind time to redo actions. If it’s true that the new season will focus on a new setting and group of characters (similar to how American Horror Story transforms itself from season to season), then the sequel will need to have characters that are just as memorable as Chloe and Max.
