Supernatural is one of those shows that has been on forever in an under-the-radar fashion. It’s like Bones in that way. Oh, it has very devoted fans, but if you aren’t one of those fans you may not even be aware that it’s on. Not only is it still on, but it has run for 12 seasons and 262 episodes. Supernatural has already been given a 13th season, and it will be bringing along a well-known, crime-solving Great Dane in a special animated episode.
That dog is, of course, Scooby-Doo. Yes, at The CW’s upfronts it was announced that Supernatural will be doing an animated episode with the Scooby-Doo gang next season. Hey, when you’ve done over 250 episodes, it’s hard to do something new. One assumes this will be a less than serious episode, what with the talking cartoon dog and everything.
Still, it sounds like an amusing idea, one reminiscent of the gimmick episodes done by another supernatural show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Plus, Scooby, Shaggy, and the Mystery Machine gang are used to hanging out with people from other shows. They’ve tagged along with the likes of Batman, WWE wrestlers, and the Harlem Globetrotters over the years. Now they will be teaming up with the Winchester brothers to take down some spooks and spirits. Hey, as long as they don’t bring Scrappy along.
