The creators of PaRappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man are working together on a brand new project that just might have rhythm gaming fans standing up and cheering in their seats. Project Rap Rabbit is a brand new collaboration between PaRappa’s Masaya Matsuura and Gitaroo Man’s Keiichi Yano where players take part in bombastic rap battles that play out as the result of branching dialogue options.
It looks like an exciting riff on typical rhythm-based gameplay, with a rapping rabbit and frog companion that will interact with other characters via dialogue trees and rapped responses. There’s a dialogue wheel with responses based on emotional responses the can be used in response to enemies’ words. It’s a far cry from straight up rapping, and it’s going to be an interesting change from games in the past.
The project was just launched as a Kickstarter campaign, which is looking to attain over a million dollars in funding. At the time of this writing, the game has amassed about $100,000 from eager fans. The program will run until June 19, and the game will only be funded if the project reaches its goal. Hopefully it’ll have no issue doing so, as this is a huge development for fans of rhythm gaming.
If you’re interested in possibly backing the game or learning more about it, check out the Kickstarter page and see what’s hopping. Chances are, if you’re a fan of games like PaRappa the Rapper or Vib-Ribbon, you’re going to want to pony up some sweet, sweet cash.
