Mario, the famed plumber/Bowser vanquisher, usually hangs out with a select few. There’s his brother Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, and some mushroom dudes. Sure, occasionally he’ll go golfing with Donkey Kong or go-kart racing with Inkling Girl, but usually Mario rolls with a limited crew. That’s changing this August, as Mario will be teaming up with the Rabbids for a new crossover game coming to the Nintendo Switch named Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, which comes out August 29, 2017, certainly shakes things up for Mario. Ubisoft, the developers behind the game, describe it as such:
“This is the story of an unexpected encounter between Mario and the irreverent Rabbids. To bring order back to a splintered Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi team up with Rabbids heroes in a journey through four different worlds.
Outwit unpredictable enemies in dynamic turn-based combat and co-op challenges, and solve puzzles along the way. Discover a feel-good and modern combat adventure designed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch system, playable anywhere, anytime, with anyone.”
Indeed, this is an unexpected encounter, but not an unpleasant one. It’s not like the Mario universe has ever been a serious one, and based on the trailer for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle this game seems like it could be a lot of fun. Plus, one of the promotional images involves a Rabbid with a big, busy mustache. How can that possibly go wrong?
